Rooted in Nature: Summer at SCC

Rooted In Nature: SCC Summer Camp 2022
July 5-8: We Will, We Will Rock You
Who Doesn’t love finding rocks? Campers will collect, identify, paint and build with rocks we find in our backwoods forest and natural playground.
July 11-15: Budding Artists
How can we use nature to create art? Campers will explore making nature mandalas, painting with sticks, leaves, flowers, and more during camp.
July 18-22: Wonderful Water
Where does water come from? Does it fall from the sky or can you find it deep in the ground? Campers will dig, collect and play in water all week!
July 25-29: Plant Medicine and Foraging
What plants live in the forest? Campers will spend time collecting and identifying plant species in our backwoods, as well as flowers planted in our gardens.
August 1-5: Who Lives in the Pond?
Campers will explore Red Hill Pond Trail and learn about which animals live in and around the pond. We will also create our own habitats with materials we find in the forest.
August 8-12: Garden Chefs
Calling all cooks! Campers will explore delicious food and drink recipes using ingredients from our garden this week!
August 15-19: Let’s Wing It!
Birds, Birds, Birds! Campers will learn about the birds who live in our environment, identify birds we see (and hear), and build wings of our own!

Each week camps will also include:
Messy free-play outside, forest play, hiking and excursions, water play, fort building, making nature journals, visits from experts (based on weekly themes), yoga, music, dancing, fairy house constructing, group games, reading and relaxation. Weekly themes will be shared with the children at the start of each week and time will be spent gathering ideas, as well as questions, to explore.

The majority of each day will be spent outdoors, so proper gear is necessary for each child to feel confident and comfortable during play. Children will need a morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack packed, as well as a water bottle each day. Please also provide: sunscreen, bug spray, a sun hat, backpack, rain boots, waterproof shoes for hiking and adventuring, a bathing suit, towel, a change of clothes for each day, and rain gear (if needed).

Daily schedule:
Each week of camp runs Monday-Friday, except for July 4th week, which runs Tuesday-Friday from 8:00am-3:15pm or 8:00am-4:30pm. Please plan to drop off your child by 8:30am so everyone can begin their adventures for the day on time.
